Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park was established in 1929. It comprises 10,000 acres (mostly old growth redwood) along the Smith River (Wild and Scenic River designation) and has been designated as a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve. Stout Grove is located off the Howland Hill Road and has a nice parking area and rest room facilities. There are many interesting trails along the way including The Boy Scout Trail, Nickerson Ranch Trail and Mill Creek Trail. "Return of the Jedi" was filmed in this area.
